Creating Traditions, Penguin Style
Traditions are such a special way to mark the seasons and celebrate both big and small moments with the people in your life. One of my favorite family traditions is the biggest bite contest at Thanksgiving, where everyone piles as much food as they can onto their fork and tries to shovel it into their mouth without anything falling off. It is silly and rowdy, but it has grown to be a favorite part of our holiday.
At Iceberg we have developed our own special tradition for this time of year: writing a witty holiday poem for our cards. I wish I could take credit for starting this tradition (it did start the first year I worked here coincidentally) but this tradition grew organically out of our simple desire to make each other laugh and bring a smile to our customers.
Now the best part of this tradition is looking back at the previous year’s cards as we brainstorm ideas for the current year. It’s so fun to see the themes that emerged, such as the covid years, the AI explosion, the growth of our team, and our creative ways to try to pitch our services.
As a business, we’ve seen over and over that our growth comes from focusing on our values, not just the numbers, and that really does mean laughing together about trivial things like trying to force words to rhyme. It’s so easy to get caught up in the end-of-year budget recap and final push to meet a goal, but it can be just as important to pause for a minute and let your guard down and make some core memories together with your team.

Keep an eye on your mailbox—our 2024 card is just around the corner! While you’re waiting, check out our previous poems. Each one tells a little story about the year we’ve had, from challenges we faced to the milestones we celebrated. We hope these cards bring a smile to your face just as much as they do to ours.
